What is an audiobook?
An audiobook is simply a recording of a text being read, but it is not necessarily an exact audio version of a book or magazine, as many books are abridged before being recorded.
Amazingly, spoken audio has been available in schools and public libraries since the 1930s. Many spoken word albums were made prior to the age of tapes and CDs. But it is the increasing popularity of instantly downloadable digital content that has really put the audiobook on the map.
Companies such as Audible.com now sell many millions of books in audio format, and digital audio downloads are fast becoming one of the most popular ways for customers to purchase books.
